Employees found themselves in workplaces that valued their well-being, as companies embraced flexible hours and work-life balance initiatives. A city once known for its isolation is now seeing a growing trend in personal responsibility and community engagement.
BIG DATA
These achievements are owed to the development and implementation of BIG DATA, a system which has the power to determine employment, education, and housing based on an individual's score.
In the last thirty years, more cities have adopted this system following the success seen in Yue Song. The system, while miraculous in it's ability to judge someone based solely on a subconcious psychological profile, is also mysterious. The way the system functions is largely unknown to the greater public-- it is for this reason some regions have resisted it's deeper societal ingrain.
Some regions-- and some individuals too.
Crime Coefficient
The tendency to exhibit criminal behavior can be measured through a crime coefficient.
Individual crime coefficients can be requested or obtained through a court order and can only be performed by a government appointed medical examiner. These scores are not disclosed to the general public.
A crime coefficient does not fluctuate under normal circumstances. It is more common for a crime coefficient value to gradually raise over time. A crime coefficient may spike in value when experiencing strong mental distress. With therapy and counseling, there is a chance to lower the value after such an event, but it's rare that it would ever return to what it once was.
20 - 50 (low)
Exceptional Mental State
Pillars of society with unwavering mental fortitude. Proof of a low crime coefficient is the equivalent of a good credit score, a letter of recommendation, or several years of work in a job.
This rating is suitable for high stress, high status jobs, such as politicians, medical professionals, academics, and CEOs - roles where their cognitive endurance and exemplary dispositions can be displayed.
50 - 80 (low)
Population Average
Blue- and white-collar workers occupy this range. A wide variety of jobs are available to crime coefficients in this range, but few are promoted to higher positions.
80 - 100 (average)
Therapy recommended
Therapy is strongly suggested to individuals with a crime coefficient in this range. Failure to address a deteriorating crime coefficient has been cited as a form of criminal negligence.
100-200 (high)
Latent Criminal
Considered a threat to society. A crime coefficient in this range is a probable cause for arrest should an individual be suspected of a crime.
Juveniles who score in this range are often removed from school and receive a private education at a specialized facility or home-schooled for the duration of their mandatory education.
Hue
Stress levels are represented by the intensity of an individual hue. A clear hue appears light in color and reflects a healthy mental state, while a clouded hue is opaque and indicates distress. Hues can fluctuate over the day/between days/weeks, but it’s not an urgent sign that medical attention is required.
High traffic areas with a collectively darkening hue alerts authorities to address the point of conflict.
Any mobile device can check the hue of an individual or of the current occupied district. Further instructions on retaining a healthy hue are offered on the same application.
YUE SONG
Yue Song is hilly in terrain and nearly humid the entire year due to it's proximity to the ocean. The city is recognized as a special administrative region consisting of its own governing power. It is considered a center of commerce and a hub for promising start-ups.
Located on the southern part of Neo-Kowloon is District 14. A sprawling cosmopolitan area surrounded by independent businesses make up the better part of its urban center. District 15 can be seen across the harbor, the lights of the observation wheel visible even on foggy days.
Although few and far inbetween, villages and temples still exist in the outskirts of the district and remain largely unaffected by BIG DATA.
